Living an eco-friendly lifestyle is becoming easier by the day. From product manufacturers to the government, many are trying to make it easy for consumers to go green.
Does a Green Home Cost More Than a Conventional Home?
One common misconception is that green homes cost much more than a conventionally-built home. This was the case at the start of the green movement, but fortunately with advances in technology, sustainability has met attainability. Products that may cost more money up front often can drastically reduce costs in the long-run.
One benefit provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development is Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM). EEMs allow qualifying homebuyers or homeowners to save money on utility bills by enabling them to finance the cost of adding energy-efficiency features to new or existing housing as part of their FHA-insured home purchase or refinancing mortgage, according to HUD. Green House Effect
We are working on creating a searchable green property field on the Property Search function. Until that is set up, if you tell us what level of green you are looking for we would be happy to find an eco-friendly home meeting your needs. Because of our good rapport with various developers, we know of many green developments, some of which have not yet hit the Multiple Listing Service. Also, you can visit our Eco-Projects section for an idea of what is currently out there.
